Touch Artworks

"Sensitive" 4"x 6" Ink and Marker on Paper  Inspired by Diana Ackerman's "A Natural History of the Senses" Chapter- Touch, pages 67& 68 Quotes: "Holding in all the thick red jams and jellies inside us where they belong." & "It imprisons us, but also gives us individual shape"  The inspiration for this piece was found in both quotes I have listed above. Viewing the skin as an organ rather than something we happen to have, puts it into perspective that the human flesh is not just meant to be something pleasing to the eye. It is a whole 10 pound organ that holds in, and protects, everything inside our bodies that we require to function. The skin is something that is malleable and able to endure a great deal of sensations and physical objects we encounter in the day to day. The plus side is that it is an organ that is pleasing to the eye and extremely varied from person to person which adds to the aesthetic.    "Chrysalis
